If you walk into your home right now, does it make you feel like a star? Well, it should; and all you need to do to make that happen is upgrade your lighting.
Having the proper lighting is necessary to create a warm and cozy home.
So, here’s what you need to do:
- Replace all your mismatched bulbs
If you’re still using those old compact fluorescent bulbs or your home has like three or four different types of lightbulbs, it’s time to switch to one kind of unifying lightbulbs, like LED bulbs. Just make sure you source for a higher-quality LED bulb.
- Incorporate at least two layers of lighting
Besides the practical overhead lighting, which by the way, should be your first layer of lighting, think of adding another layer, maybe a floor lamp, table lamps, and accent lighting to create a good ambiance in the room.
And as you create different lighting layers, think of diffusing some lights; diffusion makes a softer, warmer, but flattering effect.
If all your lighting is clear, you can swap some bulbs with more opaque shades for the diffusion.
- Don’t ignore the scale
You simply cannot use a small light fixture to light up an expansive space. Make sure the light fixture you’re using clearly matches the dimensions of the area you’re placing it in.
- This is easy; don’t be shy with the lamps
Lamps are not just for side tables. You can place them anywhere, be it in the kitchen’s open shelving, with books on the study table, on top of the fridge, even on the bookshelves. Do that and notice the difference.
- Add wall lighting
For that uncluttered look in your bedroom, go for a plug-in wall sconce instead of a side table lamp.
You can also decide to layer a wall light into your dining room. Just make sure it radiates attractively; that is, you can choose a wall sconce with a metal or cloth cord covering.
- Don’t let the accents lights shine too bright
In fact, dim them all together. You can choose accent lighting with a dimmer switch to help control the brightness.
- Don’t forget to incorporate candles
Candles are the ultimate lighting to create a warm and inviting space, so make sure to incorporate a few.
And that’s how you uplift your home from ordinary to stylish.
